Interview with Monique McCloud-Manley

Monique McCloud-Manley

In the last 5 years, what new belief, behavior or habit has improved your life?

The belief that you aren't required to keep people in your life out of a sense of obligation, especially if they aren't bringing you joy/happiness/positive energy.

What purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted your life in the last 6 months or in recent memory?

There were a couple of products that I fit the bill, but they didn't fit into the price range.  There's a free app called Podcast on my iPhone.  I love listening to it in the car/in transit because I get to learn from people and hear ideas that I normally wouldn't have had an opportunity to experience.

In the last 5 years, what have you become better at saying 'no' to?

Negative people and random children’s birthday parties.

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?

First, I make a list. For quick results and an immediate dopamine fix, take on a small organization/cleaning project.  This allows me to re-focus and start over feeling a sense of accomplishment.

What are the bad recommendations you hear in your profession or expertise?

"Just focus on doing a good job.  The rewards/recognition will come."
(No it won’t.  Not if people don’t know what you’re doing!)

What is one of the best or worthwhile investments you have ever made?

  • Time to vacation with my spouse (without the kids!)
  • Private school for my kids
  • My car- I enjoy driving her.
